"This will be my fourth year working with Kolie, and his hard work and guidance have taken me from a cat 4 to a cat 1. I think the things I appreciate the most about Kolie's coaching style are his responsiveness, his ability to adjust to changing schedules, and his scientific research behind training. I am a graduate student, so the time I can train is limited, but additionally it can change quickly, so having a coach that can respond to my emails or texts and change a workout has been crucial for me. In addition, I know I can always trust his planning and development of workouts to deliver me to the starting line in my top form. I would recommend Kolie to anyone to take their cycling to the next level!"
-Emma, 2x National Champion
I have been working with Kolie at Empirical Cycling for the last three years, and they have been incredibly rewarding. I have learnt so much about physiology and training, and putting it all into practice has helped me become a much stronger rider. I have gone from winning local/regional races, to winning national level races, to podiuming a UCI 1.2 and moving up to ride for a Continental team for 2024.
I genuinely did not believe this was possible three years ago when we started working together. After having trained with reasonably high volume for 7 years before we started, I thought my level had plateaued for good. But Kolie has opened my eyes to what I am capable of. I couldn’t be happier with his services.
-James, Continental Pro Cyclist
"Kolie at Empirical Cycling has consistently helped me reach my cycling and multisport goals with the most friendly and professional interactions one can seek between coach and athlete. Empirical Cycling's one-on-one coaching, tailored training plans, and daily motivation are the reasons I continue to support this business as much as it supports me. Kolie hasn't just created a business or a collection of coaches, he has successfully fostered a real cycling family that loves and is eager to watch each other grow."
-Brandon, Duathlon National Champion
"I've been with Kolie and Empirical Cycling for three years now and have been extremely satisfied with both his coaching and my race results.
I've raced primarily road and track, with much more of a track focus in the recent years and Kolie has been open to addressing any and all of my goals therein. He programs both on and off bike workouts too.
Plenty of coaches out there write generic training plans and cookie cutter workouts for all their athletes while not really giving you the individual attention you need to progress as an athlete. Kolie's workouts and periodization schemes are tailor fit to your goals, secondary, and primary events.
Unlike some other coaching services out there every athlete with Empirical Cycling receives the same individualized attention to detail and care with Kolie. No caste system exists within his athletes and he is always open to email communication. No restrictions on questions, concerns, or feedback from him.
Kolie has coached athletes at every level from beginner new racers to elite nationals level and I highly recommend his services to riders looking to take their performances that next step."
-Kyle, Collegiate Club Sprint National Champion
I've been working with Kolie/Empirical Cycling for almost five years now and have never been disappointed with the rate of progression or attention to detail. Kolie took a mediocre Category 3 racer and created a competitive Category 1 racer, providing the kind of flexibility and positivity that's very rare to come by in a coaching business. Kolie's willingness to constantly adapt to new and different training methods as he learns more about the sport and his athletes is refreshing, not to mention a huge competitive edge. Highly recommend reaching out for a consultation!
-Cole, Category 1 Cyclist
"Kolie has been the best coach I could have had the pleasure of working with! There are not many coaches who could successfully design a training plan around a time-consuming academic schedule, but Kolie has gone above and beyond to make sure that I get the most out of every minute of training. Kolie is always receptive to athlete goals and constraints, and I can't imagine that any coach could be easier to communicate with."

I'm a regular, middle aged dude looking to be average-plus, while enjoying some local weeknight racing and putting down more power than last year. I picked Empirical Cycling because of the evidence based philosophy and biochem foundation; it's one thing to know what makes someone faster but another to know why and then maximize. This scientific foundation provided for my complete confidence in the work prescribed because my coach directly links the work to the physiological adaptation we're after. If you want me to go that hard or ride the bike that many hours, I need to believe it and I do. It's made me enjoy the process because all of the rides are purposeful. It also helps that they take regular people as clients.
I did not expect the value of daily feedback to be so profound. There are some unique and important nuances and technique considerations to get the most adaptation with the least amount of fatigue and the daily feedback loop provides for full-circle understanding or adjustments. I never would have realized that I "deserve" 100g of CH per hour, probably never would have understood the importance of cadence where it diverged from "normal", I never would have pushed through plateaus, and never would have understood what I understand now without that feedback loop which is daily. Empirical Cycling also realizes that this client has a job, and a family, and sometimes skipping a workout for whatever reason is okay or even a good idea.
-Trey
It's really cool to get this treatment as an average, hobbyist cyclist. I should have done this sooner.
Last year I decided to quit my job to embark on a long training and racing journey as an amateur road racer. Knowing Kolie from listening to the empirical cycling podcast, I decided to reach out to him for guidance and coaching for that project. Since I have been working with him my fitness and race skills have only been increasing and I amaze myself with the workouts and consistency I can now achieve. He has also guided my training through a rough traumatic injury recovery process, something there is now way I could have done without him. He is also very professional and adaptable by quickly replying to questions and being able to adjust the training schedule and workouts according to life situations that inevitably happen. Finally, the stress relief obtained by having an expert like him telling you when to push, and then giving you confidence that rest and recovery will make you faster (and it definitely does), is just invaluable.
-Patrick
Fabiano has been excellent throughout the last year and a half and I would happily recommend him to anyone. He's been great at understanding what I needed out of a coach and I've been very happy with the progress I've made under him. I've also been very appreciative of how he has understood and been patient with my struggles to stay consistent in motivation. However I think the evidence of his impact on my riding is best reflected in how he has successfully motivated me to stick to my training and get out on the bike more than I had done in the past 6 years.
-Rory
Cory has been an amazing coach to work with. Even though workouts are scheduled in advance, depending on multiple factors from how you performed during the day's planned session to changes in schedule, Cory will take the time to analyze each workout, provide feedback and alter future sessions accordingly. His attention to detail provides the confidence that you are making the most of your training time. I also appreciated his responsiveness to any questions or concerns I had. He has a clear, concise communication style and you're never left wondering what you're attempting to achieve. It's been a lot of fun working with Cory to improve my performance as a cyclist. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for anyone looking to maximize their time and potential.
-Colin
Alex is fantastic, I never feel like I can't complete a workout but I am so much stronger than before.
-Ryan
I LOVE working (hard) with him, I LOVE the way he interacts with me and i LOVE the fact that I learned a lot about training and about myself (training with CR along with power is the most revolutionary thing I learned).
-Andrea
Prior to joining Empirical Cycling full time, I had consulted with Kolie to review my training, racing strategies, and other general nerding out on training and science. I left those calls feeling both more comfortable I was on the right path with my training and also more knowledgeable than before on what is & isn't working and why. I joined as an athlete full time not long after and have been more than impressed with the attention to detail, the flexibility, and overall support from Empirical Cycling in building and adapting my training to me and my life.

I just wanted to share that since I started working with Will, my overall fitness has improved significantly. I'm able to finish races and hard rides with a lot less suffering and confidence. Even when a chronic back issue flared up, Will has been super flexible and understanding and has worked with me to find approaches that keep me going and improving. Having a coach like Will has really taken one thing off my plate while I balance my injury and family life with two young kids. I'm excited to continue working with him as I train for the Unbound 200 next year.
-Brett
Working with Maeghan has been great! Over the last 6 months I have seen tremendous growth in all aspects of my cycling performance. I look forward to continuing to work with her and to see how far we can go!
-Jesse
There is no one I trust more than Kolie, he's easily one of the best coaches you could ever work with. Not only is his knowledge of physiology unparalleled, he cares greatly about his athletes. He has been in my corner through good and bad times, and he cares about you as a human. I could not recommend him, or his coaching philosophy, higher.
-Kara
I've never worked with a coach before so I was a little worried in the beginning about dropping money and just getting canned plans and generic feedback. I had done the online plan thing before, but they all had me beat down by mid-season. I needed help to maximize my time on the bike while also managing fatigue to get through two separate race series. Rory took the time to understand my history and goals; and he definitely delivered on my expectations. Whether it be adjusting for my ever-changing work schedule, or just answering a quick text message; his feedback and attention to my training gave me the confidence to focus on putting in work and trusting the process. We used the power meter to quantify results, but my biggest take away from working with him was how to train by feel. Rory really helped me to understand the importance of not focusing on a target based off of FTP. I really think this, coupled with the general thoughtfulness of the planning, helped this 46-year-old dude to be the fastest he's been in a long time. Thanks so much Rory, I'm looking forward to continuing down this path with your excellent guidance.
